Turning over the same Leaf

Our favorite poster boy for the NFL Draft is back in the news. You know about the NFL Draft, right? That’s the time when ESPN devotes 24/7 coverage for the month prior to the two-day event. Mel Kiper Jr. gets more face time than Ryan Seacrest and every two-bit flunkie offers up a mock draft. Once the draft has ended, everyone and their brother immediately tells us who the winners and losers were.

And every year, we remind people of two words: Ryan Leaf. (Well, sometimes we bring up Tom Brady, too.) Leaf, if you recall, was a can’t miss superstar. Everyone wondered if the Colts were going to select him or go with Peyton Manning. We don’t have to remind you what happened. What the hell, we will anyway. Manning has won a Super Bowl and could break every passing record in the books. Leaf was a massive flop.

Now Leaf is back in the news.

Hopefully Leaf will have better luck in court than he did in the NFL. We’ll be tuning in to ESPN to see what Kiper thinks of his chances.
